The cheating scandals around standardized tests should alarm Afrikan people that we need to make a firm commitment to developing a new independent system of schools or home schools based on our needs.
Pay-for-performance is not working as teachers lose interest in the education process and only “teach for the test.” I do not blame them, but our children are losing in this game of high-stakes assessment.
The focus on testing as the main assessment limits the education of school children and does not assess very important elements. For example, these tests do not assess commitment, love of learning, self-awareness, overall character, and many others characteristics that are absolutely important for Afrikan liberation.
We must build our own institutions and assess our children in a way that is relevant to our plight and our situation right now.
Revolutionary Love,
Samori Camara
